Amanda ~ “Lupus Lady” ~ on Blog Talk Radio
I am Amanda also known as @LAlupusLady on Twitter. I am a member of Dabney’s #TeamGirlfriends where I sometimes chat with the @SmGirlfriends handle. I love this community that provides support and encouragement to each and everyone within it. I am so happy to be interviewed by Dabney on GIRLFRIENDS TALK RADIO today, Wednesday, May 1st, because the month of May is a special month for me. It is “Lupus Awareness Month” and I am proud to kick it off with the Social Media Girlfriends in what I call “Lupus Style” – where I like to celebrate and “find my flair, while avoiding a flare (which is a period when my condition is active and inflamed).”
I “find my flair” when I wear my purple cape, tights and boots. This past Sunday, I was a part of the “L Hand Sign Lupus Awareness Flash Mob” in Hollywood. At Noon, over 150 people (most of them, wearing purple) froze while proudly flashing the “L Hand Sign” the event was videotaped and will be posted online soon.
I am committed to doing whatever it takes to raise Lupus Awareness and support Lupus Research so that one day (hopefully, in my lifetime) there will be a cure for lupus. Next week, I will fly to New York City to join in and support the Alliance for Lupus Research. On May 9th, I am going to be a part of the “LupUs is Us” event in the East Village. The next day, May 10th is World Lupus Day and I will be donning my purple cape, tights and boots and instead of Hollywood Blvd, I’ll be in Times Square for another Flash Mob. Shortly after that I’ll be on my way to a wonderful celebratory lunch at Joanne’s Trattoria. A wardrobe change will be happening in the back of a cab en route. Can you picture it? Like Superman used a phone booth, I am going to use a cab, only changing from my outfit as a caped crusader for Lupus Awareness into “LA Lupus Lady.”
I enjoy being a part of the #SmGirlfriends community and hope you join our mini-chats every weekday at 12pm/EST & 9am/PST where I tweet as @SmGirlfriends. Follow me and my #LupusStyle adventures on Twitter or on my blog LA Lupus Lady – or maybe you could support my team “Lupus Awareness is Fun” that is walking on May 18th in New Jersey at MetLife Stadium. Hope to see you in the chat!

This is an enlightening interview giving moms a different and fresh perspective allowing them to see life from their children’s point of view. In this show you can learn what shuts them down and clams them up something we all want to avoid.
Launching soon – The Lauren Galley Show – an open forum for teens to talk about the pressures they face, how to deal with these pressures and information good to know for everyday life. She feels, as many of us do, that it is important to show our younger generation how to get through their teenage years with less stress so they can have fun. The Lauren Galley Show will include experts as well as every day teens helping each other with tips on self-confidence because one of the most effective ways getting through to teens is for them to listen and connect with other teens. Lauren’s mission is to promote teens to be confident and believes this by stating, “Confidence is the main thing and if you really are confident you can get out of so many bad situations as a teenager.” Wow! An amazing young woman!

Girlfriends Talk Radio: Dabney shares an emotional chat with Ruth Kaiser of Spontaneous Smiley
Spontaneous Smiley – Spreading Happiness One Smiley at a Time!!
Join Dabney and your Social Media Girlfriends for an emotional and eye opening chat with children’s author and artist Ruth Kaiser, who spreads smiles daily as she speaks to both adults and children about choosing optimism, kindness and gratitude!
Ruth Kaiser is the Founder of Spontaneous Smiley – a joyful place where people from all over the world share Smiley Faces they find in everyday objects. This project began out of a simple and small space of happiness which Ruth adopted in life as a young girl. Listen to Ruth’s interview to learn the movie that taught Ruth to live a life of optimism and always seeing the glass as half full. Ruth’s book Smiley Book of Colors was published and released by Random House earlier this year. Ruth’s project led her to a partnership with Operation Smile. To date, Spontaneous Smiley has raised funds for 25 children to receive free surgeries for facial deformities. Ruth is also the Founder and Owner of Tot Drop Preschools – a program that allows parents to design their child’s class schedule to their own.
The eternal optimist, Ruth shares with us her internal optimistic narrator and how that voice tells her to think about a situation differently than what you see on the surface. As is the same with Spontaneous Smiley, by looking at objects differently than what you see on the surface there is a tiny little moment of finding the smiley in that object and when that happens she says, “you have a burst of happy.” If you have the idea in the back of your head that there are smiley faces hiding around just waiting to be found then you will find them, accidentally, every day. These moments then become positive ones.
Ruth Kaiser loves to soak in all the beauty the world has to offer. She looks beyond the frustrating and sometimes saddening behavior of the world and others. It is these qualities that make Ruth a beautiful soul and this is what Social Media Girlfriends is all about. We feel lucky to have her among us. Listen to her on Girlfriends Talk Radio today!
Ruth Kaiser is a preschool teacher and mom of three adult children. She currently resides in Northern California and is a cute-as-a-button newlywed. You can learn more about Operation Smile at Spontaneous Smiley, find her on Facebook or you can tweet her @SpontaneSmiley. She has a special smile waiting just for you!
Girlfriends Talk Radio: Dabney shares the beautiful Stephen Dimmick ~ The Daily Dimmick
A beautiful and heartfelt show – Dabney talks candidly with Stephen Dimmick, the lovely host of Daily Dimmick. In this no-holds-barred interview, Stephen shares with us some of the deepest parts of his personal life and what brought him to become the bright light for himself and for all women he encounters.
Stephen Dimmick is an internationally acclaimed make-up artist. His talent can be seen from the runways of Paris for Valentino, Calvin Klein and Mark Jacobs to esteemed celebrities including Cate Blanchett, Toni Collette, Anna Kendrick, the Kardashians and many more. With his stylish fedora, Stephen loves transforming women into the goddess they hold within. He has an innate ability to help women see their lives through honest discussions about anything and everything while transforming them through the talent of his make-up brush. His work has been featured in Shape, Interview, InStyle, Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan and on the covers of Time and International editions of Vogue Magazine.
In this interview Stephen is wide open and shares some of the most intimate moments of his life, from the deepest heartache along with beautiful triumph and the ability to overcome anything at any age. An intuitiveness at the age of 10, Stephen knew there was something about him that was different and that he was here for a reason. Unfortunately, this difference and passionate understanding did not make it easy for him as a young boy, enduring the cruelest of bullying and being treated like an outcast.
Thankfully, there was a little voice inside, an inner force that gave him the strength to pull it all together and make him believe there was something bigger and brighter. It was this that kept him moving forward to learn he had a bigger voice, a voice that could help women everywhere.
Listen to the show to find out how Twitter changed his life. Stephen says, “Twitter, truly encapsulates change for me – It’s what gave me change, it’s what brought me here, it’s what introduced me to people who gave me a new direction – and the people that gave me a new direction were all of you out there.”
The Social Media Girlfriends LOVE the Daily Dimmick and we know you will too. Listen to him on Girlfriends Talk Radio today! We are certain you are not going to want to miss this powerful and enlightening interview.
Stephen Dimmick, an Australian native with the charming accent to show for, is a powerhouse in the world of beauty. He lives in Los Angeles with his partner and their cuddly, lovable four-legged creatures ~ Be sure to tweet him @DailyDimmick

Girlfriends Talk Radio with Dabney!
The Law of Fabulous ~ Dabney Shares her Brilliance

Dabney
Founder of Social Media Girlfriends
Collaboration and Mutual Influence
Guest Post by Kelly Kim of Twylah
When Dabney Porte and Britt Michaelian asked me to do a guest post on collaboration, I was thrilled. Not only do I love the topic, I knew it was a timely one.
This month alone we watched the London riots break out, the American debt crisis blow up, and reports of extreme weather and impending natural disaster.
With all that’s going on in our world, it seems pretty clear that collaboration is no longer an option.
This is not political or moral position. It’s simply an elegant if not obvious solution – a return to a more basic state and a more civil time. Collaboration is our natural way of being after all. In fact, it’s nature’s way of being.
We are birthed from “collaboration,” and in ashes and dust, we return to feed the soil. Plants and trees create the oxygen we breathe, and in turn they eat up the carbon dioxide we produce.
The rain forest is not conflicted or confused by the concept of collaboration, nor does the rain forest need to convince itself that collaboration is necessary or valuable. It just does it. It just is it.
Human beings are the only ones who insist on pretending that collaboration is an option or something to aspire to when we have the time or after we’ve been through enough training seminars.
It is only human beings who recoil at the thought of collaboration. We almost fear the perceived loss of control that comes with allowing ourselves to be truly influenced by the unique wisdom, perspective, and ideas of another.
Similarly, we fear our own power to influence another. Who are we to know what’s right? Will we be blamed if it doesn’t turn out as planned? Do we really want that responsibility?
And what is collaboration about if it is not about allowing others to influence us with their ideas even as we summon the courage to take a stand for our own?
The answer, of course, is conscious collaboration, which includes conscious choices of our partners in the collaboration process and conscious choices during each and every moment of the collaboration process itself. Indeed, it is the depth of consciousness within our collaborations that creates fair and equitable circumstances, outcomes, and solutions for the benefit of all.
Collaboration is our natural state. And in this recognition – the recognition of what is always, already happening all around us – we can begin to make conscious, healthy choices. And in our healthy and conscious choices in favor of collaboration, new possibilities arise.
And isn’t that the point of collaborating after all?
How do you feel about collaborating? More importantly, are you doing it and how?
Even after all this time,
the sun never says to the earth,
“You owe me.”
Look what happens with a love like that.
It lights the whole sky.
