2013 – The Year of the Empowered Woman
written by DearDarby
When I became aware that our Social Media Girlfriend’s Community had made the declaration “2013 is the Year of the Empowered Woman” I knew I had found the perfect platform to discuss how Jodie Foster’s speech, as she accepted the Cecile B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award at the 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards, honored us in just that way! I thank Dabney Porte for giving me the opportunity to share “My2Cents” on such a meaningful topic.
Epic, Empowering, Emotional, Classy, Powerful, Courageous and Bold…
all words used to describe the brilliant, witty way Jodie Foster stood before the world with fearless, raw emotion and declared her love for her life, her mother, her sons, her ex-life partner, her peers and her craft.
You didn’t have to be an actor, a lesbian, a mother, or woman for her words to have hit home…you just had to be a living, breathing human being. With unabashed dignity and candor she owned it while honoring her extraordinary life. She made it okay to be who you are and celebrate that! We all make a mark on the world, regardless of our platform! It was not about being a lesbian. It was about being a mother, a daughter and… AN EMPOWERED WOMAN!
There was nothing confusing or hard to understand about her speech, if you listened to it, or read the transcript although, as I would have expected some of the seasoned journalists cluttered the airwaves with unfounded ignorant comments, negative connotations and snarky remarks. Thankfully, they can’t take away from the enormous impact of Ms. Foster’s words. She is 50! She is Fabulous! She is an empowered woman! We ALL can aspire to that because we have the power!
I stand with so many that applaud Jodie Foster for her grace, dignity, and courageous plight to leave her mark. She wants what we all want; respect, acceptance, and to be honored for the amazing women we are! We all leave a mark on the world and it’s importance should not be diminished regardless of it’s size!
Ms. Foster said it “Loud and Proud” that she’s an empowered woman and an inspiration to all of us! Ladies, it’s about taking the reigns, supporting each other, and to lift each other to endless levels of success, which can only be defined by us!
2013 IS the year for the “Empowered Woman” so embrace your fabulousness and own your power!

Connections Light Up Our World

In our Live Monthly Simulcast for September we were delighted to hear from many of you on our call and in our Nest of Fabulous on Twitter! Seeing your messages, hearing your voices and engaging in more then 140 characters during this hour each month, reminds us of a cocktail party where the room is filled with fabulous friends whom we are just thrilled to connect with. Simply put, you light up our world!
In just three months our community of Social Media Girlfriends has grown to over 1000 members of magnificence and our #smgirlfriends community on Twitter has made over 100 million impressions on Social Media! We are beyond amazed that our mission of Bringing Brilliance Together on a Global Level is coming together so quickly.
As we discussed last night during our live event, our Social Media Girlfriends theme this month is connections. Connections made in life our critical to both our personal and business growth and aspirations. Healthy relationships will lift you up, support you and help you to soar higher then you ever imagined. Our goal this month is to share stories of connections made via Social Media and to enhance our ability to connect easily with others by sharing tips and strategies for online networking and relationship building.
Messages are coming in from around the world from our Social Media Girlfriends sharing that our community has changed the way they relate on Social Media and has enhanced the way they feel about themselves. By connecting with powerful, positive, brilliant and like-minded women, many of you are experiencing life changing shifts that are propelling your successes both personally and professionally.
We are experiencing these shifts as well, and are touched to our core by the brilliance we are connected to each day. Just look at the fabulous hand-made card we received from one of our Social Media Girlfriends which left footprints of love on our soul….

Within this card, the words shared were beautiful…
…Just wanted to send you some love. We all love Social Media however, sometimes we need to take relationships offline and add a personal touch…
We love it! Social Media has changed the way we reach out to others and opens the door of friendship to each of us, on a Global Level.
As the cofounders of Social Media Girlfriends, our initial connection was made via one simple tweet, which led to many and then a phone call. By taking our initial Social Media Connection to the next level, we were led to where we are today ~ business partners and best friends.
Establishing connections offline or online begins with the initial hello. How do you connect online with others? How can we help you? Do you have any special tips you would like to share with us? Please share by leaving your comments here or if you have a powerful story that we can all be inspired by, please submit a guest blog post to us directly. We would love to share your story!
We Love you!
